The Indian Ridge Middle School Music Department, Home of the Jaguars, has grown into a full-sized cat. It weighs 480 students and stands at a height of 4 courses including: beginning band, intermediate band, advanced band, and jazz band. The Music Department is under the direction of Larry Brewer. The school was founded at a portable campus site in 1995 and moved into a new facility 1997. The school is in Davie (West Fort Lauderdale), Florida and is part of the School Board of Broward County.
Curriculum & Website:
The Music Department curriculum follows the Broward Curriculum Framework for Music which incorporates the Florida Sunshine State Standards and MENC's National Standards for Music. Lesson plans and gradebooks are computerized for easy implementation and tracking. This website is maintained for students, parents, and community in order to stay informed about all aspects of the program. Goals:
Every musician will be able to perform alone and with an ensemble.
Every musician will use music notation and music terms appropriate for their course level.
Every musician will learn music history appropriate for their grade & ensemble.

Honors & Awards:
Indian Ridge has received numerous honors and awards including: FBA/FOA/FVA superior and excellent concert evaluation ratings, Florida Music Educators' High Music Enrollment Award, national first and second place awards from the Smoky Mountain Music Festival, honors from Disney's Magic Music Days, Florida ACE Day performance at the capitol, first places at local parades, and Outstanding Service Awards From the Town of Davie. Last year's advanced ensembles have been selected to perform in Epcot, Branson, MO, the Magic Kingdom Main Street Parade, Ft. Lauderdale Airport, Broward County Fair, Sawgrass Mall, and at many other local venues. The Music Department is an Honorable Mention State Music Demonstration School.
